আজ ২৪ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৫ সিলেটের মেট্রোপলিটন ইউনিভার্সিটি-এর অটাম-২০২৫ ফ্রেশারস রিসেপশন ও ওরিয়েন্টেশন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর ১৭ পদাতিক ডিভিশনের জিওসি ও এরিয়া কমান্ডার মেজর জেনারেল এএসএম রিদওয়ানুর রহমান, AWC, AFWC, psc, G। তিনি নবীন শিক্ষার্থীদের উদ্দেশ্যে বলেন—

“বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবনের সবচেয়ে বড় স্বপ্ন হলো আলোকিত মানুষ হওয়া। নিজের স্বার্থের চেয়ে দেশের স্বার্থকে প্রাধান্য দেওয়ার মানসিকতা নিয়ে শিক্ষাজীবনের এই ধাপে দৃঢ়তার সাথে এগিয়ে যেতে হবে।”

তিনি আরও বলেন, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জীবন কেবল পুঁথিগত বিদ্যার সীমায় আবদ্ধ নয়; এটি মুক্তচিন্তা, উদ্ভাবনী ধারণা ও নতুন দিগন্তের সূচনা। এখানে স্বাধীনতার সুযোগ আছে, তবে স্বাধীনতা মানে যা খুশি তা করা নয়। স্বাধীনতার সাথে থাকতে হবে শৃঙ্খলাবোধ, শ্রদ্ধাশীলতা ও সহনশীলতা। মতের ভিন্নতা থাকলেও তা হতে হবে মার্জিত, গঠনমূলক ও শালীন।

মেজর জেনারেল রিদওয়ানুর রহমান আরও উল্লেখ করেন, প্রতিষ্ঠালগ্ন থেকেই মেট্রোপলিটন ইউনিভার্সিটির সাথে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর অত্যন্ত সৌহার্দ্যপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক বিদ্যমান, যা দিন দিন আরও সুদৃঢ় হচ্ছে।

অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের চেয়ারম্যান তানভীর রহমান চৌধুরী। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও চেয়ারম্যান এমেরিটাস ড. তৌফিক রহমান চৌধুরী, ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মো. শফিকুল হোসেন (কমান্ডার, ১১ পদাতিক ব্রিগেড), ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মোহাম্মদ কামরুল হাসান (কমান্ডার, ৫২ পদাতিক ব্রিগেড), ট্রাস্টি বোর্ড সদস্য মুহিতুল বারী রহমান, কোষাধ্যক্ষ অধ্যাপক ড. তাহের বিল্লাল খলিফা প্রমুখ। স্বাগত বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রো-ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর অধ্যাপক ইশরাত ইবনে ইসমাইল।

নবীন শিক্ষার্থীদের পক্ষ থেকে বক্তব্য রাখেন রাহিকুল হক সিদ্দিকী।

ড. তৌফিক রহমান চৌধুরী তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন—

“বিশ্বমানের শিক্ষা প্রদানের লক্ষ্যে আমরা মেট্রোপলিটন ইউনিভার্সিটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছি। আমাদের গ্র্যাজুয়েটরা ইতোমধ্যে গুগল, অ্যামাজনসহ বিভিন্ন বৈশ্বিক প্রতিষ্ঠানে সুনামের সাথে কর্মরত। শুধু শিক্ষা নয়, মানবিক, হৃদয়বান ও সহনশীল মানুষ তৈরি করাও আমাদের অন্যতম লক্ষ্য।”

তানভীর রহমান চৌধুরী বলেন—

“যে স্বপ্ন নিয়ে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল, সেই স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নের পথেই আমরা হাঁটছি। একবিংশ শতাব্দীর প্রয়োজনীয় শিক্ষামান বজায় রেখে শিক্ষার্থীদের সুনাগরিক ও দক্ষ পেশাজীবী হিসেবে গড়ে তোলাই আমাদের মূল লক্ষ্য।”

অনুষ্ঠানে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ডিনবৃন্দ, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকা, কর্মকর্তা ও নবীন শিক্ষার্থীরা।

ব্যবসা প্রশাসন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী আব্দুল্লাহ বিন মাসুদ কোরআন তেলাওয়াতের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা করেন। জাতীয় সংগীত পরিবেশনের পর অনুষ্ঠানটি পরিচালনা করেন আইন ও বিচার বিভাগের সিনিয়র লেকচারার সাইয়েদা নাজমুর সিনহা মুনা। প্রধান অতিথিকে গার্ড অব অনার প্রদান করে বিএনসিসির একটি সুসজ্জিত দল। অনুষ্ঠানকে সফল করে তুলতে সার্বিক সহযোগিতা করে মেট্রোপলিটন ইউনিভার্সিটি বিএনসিসি ও রোভার স্কাউট গ্রুপ।
On 24 September 2025, Metropolitan University, Sylhet held its Autumn 2025 Freshers’ Reception and Orientation program.

The chief guest of the event was Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman, AWC, AFWC, psc, G, GOC of the 17 Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander of the Bangladesh Army. Addressing the new students, he said:

“The greatest dream of university life is to become an enlightened human being. One must move forward with determination at this stage of education, prioritizing the interest of the country above personal interest.”

He further stated that university life goes beyond academic knowledge. It is a life of free thinking, innovation, and new horizons. While there is freedom in university life, freedom does not mean doing whatever one pleases; it must be accompanied by discipline, respect, and tolerance. Differences of opinion should be expressed in a constructive, polite, and dignified manner.

Major General Rahman also mentioned that since its inception, Metropolitan University has maintained a warm and friendly relationship with the Bangladesh Army, a bond that continues to strengthen over time.

The program was presided over by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury. Special addresses were delivered by the Founder and Chairman Emeritus Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury, Brigadier General Md. Shafiqul Hossain (Commander, 11 Infantry Brigade), Brigadier General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan (Commander, 52 Infantry Brigade), Trustee Board Member Muhit ul Bari Rahman, and Treasurer Professor Dr. Taher Billal Khalifa. The welcome speech was delivered by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishrat Ibn Ismail.

On behalf of the freshers, Rahikul Haque Siddiqui gave a speech.

In his address, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury said:

“We established Metropolitan University with the vision of providing world-class education. Our graduates are already working with distinction in global organizations such as Google and Amazon. Our goal is not only to provide education but also to nurture humane, compassionate, and tolerant individuals.”

Chairman Tanwir Rahman Chowdhury added:

“We are moving forward on the path of fulfilling the dream upon which this university was founded. Upholding the standards of education required in the 21st century, we are committed to developing our students into responsible citizens and competent professionals.”

The event was attended by deans of various faculties, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officials, and the new students.

The program began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Abdullah Bin Masud, a student of the Business Administration Department, followed by the national anthem. The event was conducted by Syeda Nazmur Sinha Muna, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law & Justice. A well-decorated contingent of the BNCC presented a guard of honor to the chief guest. The program was supported by the Metropolitan University BNCC and Rover Scout Group.
